A change in leadership

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’m pleased to announce that Kathy Washburn is Preservation Houston’s new interim executive director.

Kathy, a native Houstonian, brings a wealth of experience to this role, holding bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and having worked as an association executive and nonprofit leader. Her dedication to the nonprofit sector is evident in her service on the boards of several local organizations and as a former executive director of RaiseUp Families, which helps parents of school-age children overcome financial hardships. Kathy’s love for Houston and its history led her to become one of our Architecture Walks docents in 2010. She was a valued member of PH’s board from 2016 to 2022 and held the position of treasurer for three terms. Her experience and unwavering commitment to our mission make her the perfect person to lead Preservation Houston forward.

Kathy steps into the position on the departure of David Bush. David has left Preservation Houston after 21 years of service. He became executive director in 2017 and broadened PH's focus from advocacy and education to include public service efforts in underserved communities. David leaves a strong, financially secure organization with a capable staff. The Board thanks him for his years of dedicated service.

Please join me in extending our warmest congratulations to Kathy.
