Nominate a project for a Good Brick Award
Nominations for the 2025 Good Brick Awards are closed. We’ll accept nominations for the 2026 awards shortly after Memorial Day, 2025.
Preservation Houston has presented the Good Brick Awards since 1979 to recognize outstanding local contributions to the preservation, rehabilitation and enhancement of Houston’s architectural and cultural heritage. Anyone may submit a Good Brick Award nomination.
Projects must be located in Harris County and must have been completed within five years of the year of nomination. Although historic buildings are generally considered to be 50 years or older, significant newer projects may qualify. In addition to building restoration and re-use projects, we present awards to design professionals and craftspeople; preservation leaders; owners who are good stewards of historic properties; and preservation-related projects and publications.
Anyone may nominate a project for a Good Brick Award, but the nominee(s) must be the property owner(s) who carried out the project. Nominating yourself will not affect your chances of receiving an award.
How to nominate a project
Submit your Good Brick Award nomination using our online nomination form. [Note that nominations for the 2025 Good Brick Awards are closed, but you may use the nomination form as a reference.] You’ll need to have the following information ready to complete the form:
Project information: This information includes the property owner and address (if applicable), year of completion, and the names of people who worked on the project.
A project summary statement: This statement of 500 words or fewer explains why the project or person you’re nominating is worthy of a Good Brick Award. If you submit a longer statement, the jury will only see the first 500 words.
Images (if applicable): Images or illustrations are required for building projects and may help the jury understand other types of projects. You’ll lay your images out in sequence (with captions and credits) in a PDF and will submit that PDF along with high-resolution digital versions of every image you’ve included.
Copies of a published work: If you are nominating a published article, book or film, you’ll need to submit a digital copy or enough physical copies for every award juror.
Permission of the nominee: You must certify that you have permission of the nominee (property owner, author/publisher, project leader or other person or entity) in order to submit your nomination.
A nonrefundable $150 fee is required to submit your Good Brick nomination. You may pay it using a credit card when you reach the end of the nomination form.
Nominations for 2025 Good Brick Awards must be received by 3 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2024.
Who chooses Good Brick Award recipients?
Award selections are made by an independent panel of jurors comprised of preservation and design professionals, former Good Brick Award recipients and community leaders. All jury decisions are final.
