About Preservation Houston
Preservation Houston is Houston’s only citywide nonprofit historic preservation education and advocacy organization. Since its founding in 1978, PH has fought for better public policy and protection of the city’s irreplaceable historic resources. The organization has supported historic designation for some of the city’s oldest neighborhoods, drafting and securing passage of Houston’s first preservation ordinances in the 1990s and advocating on behalf of structures ranging from shotgun houses to the iconic Astrodome. Diligent behind-the-scenes work and collaborative engagement with diverse audiences have earned Preservation Houston a reputation for professionalism and achievement, and a dedicated membership helps us carry our message forward. Preservation Houston has presented the Good Brick Awards since 1979 to recognize outstanding contributions to the preservation, restoration and enhancement of Houston's architectural and cultural heritage. This year’s 11 award-winning projects include hidden structural repairs at the home of the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, alterations to a Victorian mansion with a fascinating backstory, the thoughtful raising of a Meyerland home to avoid future flood damage, and the centennial celebration of one of Houston’s most beloved neighborhoods.
