2016 Member Reception and Annual Meeting

  • Station 3 1919 Houston Avenue Houston, TX, 77007 United States (map)

Join us on Tuesday evening, June 7, as we recap Preservation Houston's work over the past year and revisit the golden age of American postcards during the 2016 Member Reception and Annual Meeting.

The event will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m. in historic Station 3, a restored fire station at 1919 Houston Avenue. B&B Butchers & Restaurant, a 2016 Good Brick Award winner, will provide hors d'oeuvres.

Following the reception and a brief business meeting, guest speaker and author Jeffrey L. Meikle will discuss his book Postcard America: Curt Teich and the Imaging of a Nation, 1931-1950, a look at the art and business of the "linen" postcards that depicted Texas and the rest of the United States from the Great Depression through the early postwar years. After Meikle's talk — illustrated with examples of these beautiful postcards — the author will autograph copies of his book, proceeds from the sale of which will be donated to Preservation Houston.
