Please note that advance registration is required for this free online program. Scroll down or click here to register.

The women buried at Houston’s historic Glenwood Cemetery made their marks in fields ranging from business and civic leadership to the military and the movies. Learn about their lives, careers and impacts on the Bayou City — and beyond — during an online program at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, featuring Preservation Houston Programs Director Jim Parsons, historian Betty Chapman and Glenwood Cemetery Executive Director Richard Ambrus.

Parsons’ illustrated talk will include the stories of fascinating Glenwood women such as publisher and military leader Oveta Culp Hobby, businesswoman and women’s rights advocate Florence Sterling, publisher and social activist Frankie Carter Randolph and film star Gene Tierney. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A with Parsons and Chapman, the author of Houston Women: Invisible Threads in the Tapestry. Attendees will also learn about plans for the future of Glenwood, one of the nation’s outstanding garden cemeteries, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2021.
