Join Preservation Houston and Houston Mod from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, for an exclusive members-only tribute to Brochsteins, the Houston company that has shaped interiors across the city and beyond with its impeccable craftsmanship and design.
Since 1935, Brochsteins has been at the forefront of architectural woodwork, collaborating with top architects and designers to shape some of Houston’s most distinctive interiors. From the Shamrock Hotel and Sakowitz department store to 609 Main at Texas and the Museum of Fine Arts’ Nancy and Rich Kinder Building, its work is woven into the city’s built environment. As the company winds down operations after 90 years, this is a rare opportunity to explore its historic home.
We’ll start our visit with a conversation between CEO Deborah Brochstein and architectural historian Stephen Fox exploring the company’s remarkable legacy and its role in shaping Houston’s architectural identity. Afterward, you’ll have the rare opportunity to tour Brochsteins’ Streamline Moderne plant and office building (1940, 1947, I.S. Brochstein and Lenard Gabert) at 11530 S. Main Street. With its clean lines and horizontal emphasis, the building reflects the same attention to detail and modern sensibility that has defined the company’s work.
Brochsteins is the recipient of Preservation Houston’s inaugural Legacy Business Award, recognizing its lasting contributions to Houston’s built environment. Special thanks to Deborah Brochstein for welcoming us into her company’s longtime home.
This event is free and open to Preservation Houston and Houston Mod members, but space is limited, and an RSVP is required by 2 p.m. Friday, March 21.
