Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Rice University President David Leebron announced plans April 12 to repurpose the landmark Sears building in Midtown as a hub for tech startups, part of a larger proposal to develop an innovation district along Main Street between downtown and the Texas Medical Center in collaboration with a variety of educational and research institutions and businesses.
PH announces new executive director
The Board of Directors and I are pleased to announce that David Bush is Preservation Houston's new executive director.
David has proven himself through his work as PH's deputy director and acting executive director. He holds a master's degree in historic preservation from Middle Tennessee State University and has more than 25 years of experience as a preservation professional. A New Orleans native, David has worked with heritage organizations in Connecticut and Florida, but has spent most of his career with Galveston Historical Foundation and Preservation Houston.

Our city is facing significant burdens in recovering from the unprecedented flooding brought by Harvey, and our historic neighborhoods will have their own unique challenges. Legislative threat to local tree protections moves forward
Texas House Bill 70, which would overturn local tree ordinances and void existing deed restrictions that protect trees, will be heard by the House Urban Affairs Committee tomorrow (Tuesday, July 25). Three Houston-area legislators serve on the committee.
